Thank you for reviewing the LAAO Registry Monthly Case Scenario for January 2022. This month's case scenario is focused on how to capture a history of AV node ablations when coding attempts at atrial fibrillation termination in sequence number 4410. Mr. Paul was admitted for a planned LAAO procedure with a plan to implant a Watchman FLX. Mr. Paul's past medical history includes persistent AFib with rapid ventricular response and AV node ablation with pacemaker placement, CHF, hypertension, obesity, and a stroke. The patient's modified Rankin scale was documented as zero. Our question is, when capturing Mr. Paul's rhythm history, will the history of AV node ablation with pacemaker placement be captured as an attempt to terminate AFib in sequence number 4410? Is it number one, no? Or number two, yes? Please review the documentation in question to determine the best answer. We will give you a few seconds to review. And the answer is number one, no. The AV node ablation procedure with pacemaker placement is performed for rate control of atrial fibrillation, not to ablate or terminate an AFib rhythm by ablating. Although the AV node ablation is performed to treat AFib, it is not an actual ablation of an AFib rhythm. Therefore, an AV node ablation will not be captured as an attempt at atrial fibrillation termination in sequence 4410. And sequence 4410 will be coded as no. Thank you for viewing the LAAO Registries Case Scenario for January of 2022.
Video Summary
The video discusses the case scenario of Mr. Paul, who was admitted for a planned Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO) procedure. The focus is on capturing the history of AV node ablations when coding attempts at atrial fibrillation termination. Mr. Paul's medical history includes persistent AFib with rapid ventricular response, AV node ablation with pacemaker placement, CHF, hypertension, obesity, and a stroke. The question posed is whether the history of AV node ablation with pacemaker placement should be captured as an attempt to terminate AFib. The answer is no, as AV node ablation is performed for rate control, not to ablate or terminate AFib rhythm. Sequence 4410 will be coded as no.
