Hello, everyone, and welcome to our case scenario for the month of April 2024. This month, we will be discussing a scenario based on the Registry's inclusion criteria. In this scenario, our patient, Mr. Lopez, is admitted for an aflutter ablation procedure. Mr. Lopez has documented history that includes symptomatic typical aflutter, hypertension, and obstructive sleep apnea, for which he uses a CPAP nightly. During the planned aflutter ablation procedure, AFib is induced and ablated by performing lesion lines in the posterior wall and roof of the left atrium. This is our question. Based on the documentation shared, is this procedure included in the AFib ablation registry? Number one, no, or number two, yes. Please pause and take a moment to review the documentation and the question before making a final answer. The answer is number two, yes. The procedure will be included in the registry based on the fact that an ablation to treat an AFib rhythm took place during the procedure. Even if the plan for the procedure was to only treat aflutter, if an ablation to treat an AFib rhythm is performed, the procedure will be included in the registry. Please refer to the Submission Population Inclusion Criteria document located under Resource Documents for more details. A bonus question. How will AFib classification in sequence number 4400 be coded? Paroxymal, persistent, long-standing persistent, or permanent? The answer is number one, paroxymal. If the only documentation of AFib is the AFib rhythm induced and treated during the current procedure, code as paroxymal. We thank you for taking the time to review our latest case scenario.
Video Summary
In April 2024, a case scenario based on the Registry's inclusion criteria was discussed involving a patient named Mr. Lopez undergoing an aflutter ablation procedure. Despite the planned aflutter ablation, AFib was induced and treated during the procedure, leading to its inclusion in the registry. The AFib classification for sequence number 4400 would be coded as paroxysmal if it is the only documentation of AFib during the procedure. This case highlights the importance of thorough documentation and understanding of inclusion criteria for accurate data recording in the AFib ablation registry.
