This is the IMPACT Registry June 2023 case scenario, where we will discuss general submission population.  A four-year-old male infant is diagnosed with transposition of the great arteries, or TGA. The infant also has a preexisting patent foramen ovale that is determined to be inadequate  for oxygen saturation. The plan is to perform a bedside atrial septostomy to provide adequate systemic perfusion.  The balloon atrial septostomy is performed in the NICU under echocardiographic guidance. Our question, is this patient included in the general submission population? Number one, no.  Or number two, yes.  Please take a few moments to review the documentation in question before determining the best answer.  And the answer is no. The balloon atrial septostomy procedure did not involve a primary IMPACT procedure.  The balloon atrial septostomy is only captured when it is performed during a primary IMPACT procedure.
