This is the Impact Registry July 2020 case scenario reviewing intra- and post-procedure events sequence 8210 pneumothorax. A 10-year-old female is admitted for an ASD closure. Prior to this procedure, her cardiologist performs a diagnostic coronary angiography to ensure there are no blockages in the coronary vessels. Her diagnostic cath reveals no CAD, therefore the patient proceeds with ASD closure the following day. After a successful procedure, the patient moves to recovery, where she complains of shortness of breath and chest pain. A STAT chest X-ray reveals a small pneumothorax, which is immediately treated with a chest tube. After several days of monitoring, the patient fully recovers and is discharged in good condition. Question In which cath lab visit is YES coded for sequence 8210 pneumothorax? Is it cath lab visit 1, cath lab visit 2, or both cath lab visits? Please take a few seconds to review the documentation and question. The answer is cath lab visit 2. The target value is only met for the second cath lab visit as the patient had a next procedure. For the purposes of the registry, a procedure refers to a primary impact procedure. When a next procedure occurs prior to 72 hours, the target value becomes any occurrence between start of current procedure and next procedure or surgery. This patient did not have an intrapostal procedure pneumothorax between the first procedure and next procedure, therefore NO is coded in sequence 8210 for cath lab visit 1. The patient did have an intra- and post-procedure pneumothorax between the second cath lab procedure and 72 hours after the second cath lab procedure or discharge, therefore YES is coded in sequence 8210 for cath lab visit 2. Thank you for viewing the Impact Registry Monthly Case Scenario for July 2020.
Video Summary
In this video, the Impact Registry presents a case scenario involving a 10-year-old girl who undergoes an ASD closure procedure. Prior to this, she had a diagnostic coronary angiography, which showed no blockages. After the ASD closure, she complains of shortness of breath and chest pain, and a chest X-ray reveals a small pneumothorax. It is determined that the pneumothorax occurred during the second cath lab visit, as there was no occurrence of pneumothorax between the first procedure and the next procedure. The patient fully recovers and is discharged. The video concludes by thanking the viewers for watching and reviewing the July 2020 case scenario.
