This is the IMPACT Registry July 2022 case scenario, where we will review sequence number 8130, red blood cell transfusion. A 17-year-old female with a history of bicuspid aortic valve with stenosis and regurgitation complains of increasing shortness of breath, heart failure, and palpitations. The patient presents for an elective aortic valvuloplasty. Pre-procedure labs are hemoglobin of 10.3, creatinine of 0.8. During the procedure, a hematoma develops at the femoral access site, but otherwise the procedure is successful and uneventful. The patient is admitted for overnight observation, and the AM hemoglobin the next day is 8 grams. Given the patient's continued complaints of shortness of breath, a single unit of PACRED blood cells is administered. Our question is, how is sequence number 8130, red blood cell transfusion coded? Number one, no. Or number two, yes. Please take a few moments to review the documentation and question before determining your answer. And the answer is number two, yes. The transfusion administered meets the coding instructions and target value. Thank you for viewing the MPAC Registry Monthly Case Scenario for July of 2022, where we reviewed sequence number 8130, red blood cell transfusion.
