Welcome to the CAF PCI Registry August 2022 case scenario. This month, we will cover sequence number 8008, Previously Treated Lesion. A 63-year-old male with a past medical history of high blood pressure, diabetes type 2, and CAD treated with a drug-eluting stent to their proximal RCA was directly admitted to the hospital for unstable angina. The next day, he was taken to the CAF lab where diagnostic films demonstrated his prior stent in proximal RCA was widely patent. However, there was a new 90% lesion extending from the distal portion of the proximal RCA into the mid-RCA that was treated with a drug-eluting stent. After stent placement, there was no residual stenosis. The provider documented these findings in her post-procedure note. Knowing the patient was treated with a drug-eluting stent to their proximal RCA in the past and now on current procedure, how is sequence 8008, Previously Treated Lesion, coded? Number one, yes. Or number two, no. Please take a few moments to review the documentation prior to making a final selection. And the answer is number two, no. As there is clear documentation, the prior stent is widely patent and only the current stenosis was treated, indicating no portion of the previously treated proximal RCA was treated again during this episode. No would be coded in sequence number 8008, Previously Treated Lesion. Thank you for viewing the August 2022 CAHPS PCI Registry Case Scenario. We'll see you next month.
Video Summary
In this video, the presenter discusses a case scenario in the CAF PCI Registry for August 2022. The patient is a 63-year-old male with a history of high blood pressure, diabetes type 2, and CAD. They had previously received a drug-eluting stent in their proximal RCA. The patient was admitted to the hospital for unstable angina and taken to the CAF lab the next day. Diagnostic films showed the prior stent to be patent, but a new 90% lesion was found extending into the mid-RCA, which was treated with another drug-eluting stent. After the procedure, there was no residual stenosis. The provider documented that only the current stenosis was treated, not the previously treated portion of the RCA. Therefore, the correct coding for sequence number 8008, Previously Treated Lesion, is number two, no. The video concludes by thanking the viewers and mentioning the next month's case scenario.
