Pdf Summary
This research poster presentation discusses the utilization of risk stratification to expedite time to invasive strategy in patients presenting with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) at Ocean University Medical Center (OUMC). OUMC is a community hospital with accreditation as a Chest Pain Center with PCI. The aim of the project is to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs through early invasive strategy for high-risk NSTEMI patients.

The project uses the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) method for process improvement. Baseline analysis revealed underutilization of risk stratification scoring and delays in time to transfer and invasive strategy. The initiative includes collaboration with the transfer center, process map revision, update of the TIMI risk template in the electronic medical record (EMR), and reeducation of staff on risk stratification.

The results show improvement in risk stratification compliance and median time to invasive strategy, but variations in time to transfer and further improvements are needed. Obstacles such as scheduling, physician availability, and room availability in the cath lab are identified and efforts are made to address them.

The poster emphasizes the importance of risk stratification and early invasive strategy in AMI patients. It recommends the use of validated risk scores to guide initial treatment and promote best practice. Policy additions are proposed to address proper patient selection based on acuity and risk.

The next steps include ongoing monitoring of data, further process improvement initiatives, and pending decision on elective PCI privileges for OUMC. The conclusion highlights the recommendation of the American College of Cardiology for early invasive strategy in high-risk NSTEMI patients.

Overall, the poster presents a comprehensive overview of the project, its goals, findings, and next steps, highlighting the importance of risk stratification and expedited invasive strategy in improving outcomes for AMI patients.
