Pdf Summary
The Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) is a multidisciplinary approach to standardize patient care for Pulmonary Embolism (PE) patients. Lack of standardized care for PE patients can lead to increased morbidity, mortality outcomes, longer hospital stays, and readmissions. PERT aims to provide rapid diagnosis and treatment for PE patients, including mechanical thrombectomies. Preliminary results of PERT implementation show decreased length of stay, decreased 30-day readmission rate, fewer ICU admissions, and improved quality of life. The implementation process includes the establishment of a PERT team, development of a standardized approach for all PE patients, and education for healthcare providers. A retrospective data analysis showed that in 2021, 52 out of 472 PE patients required intervention and ICU care, and 179 patients were readmitted within 30 days. In 2022, after implementing the PERT algorithm, 25 inpatients received the protocol interventions, resulting in decreased length of stay, no readmissions, and improved outcomes compared to the control group. The PERT program aims to engage multidisciplinary expertise, utilize evidence-based practices, and integrate technology, interventions, and medicine to provide optimal care for PE patients.
