Direct patient identifiers, DPI, are personal information used to identify specific individuals such as their date of birth, social security number, phone number, address, etc.  DPI is protected under Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA, privacy rules. NCDR offers the option to exclude DPI from your data harvest.
