Treatment strategy PCI procedure is completed when sequence 15502 PCI is coded yes. Sequence 15499 PCI start date and time seeks to capture the date and time of the first value of the placement of an angioplasty guidewire. The definition is included in sequence 15502 PCI and here for added clarity. A percutaneous coronary intervention is the placement of an angioplasty guidewire, balloon, or other device such as a stent, arthrectomy, brachytherapy, or thrombectomy catheter into a native coronary artery or coronary artery bypass graft for the purpose of mechanical coronary revascularization. A fellow in training or FIT is a medical professional who has completed their primary medical training and is now partaking of additional training in a specialization. A medical doctor can only be in one fellowship at a time. For example, a medical doctor can be a fellow in training to become a cardiologist or a cardiologist can be a fellow in training to become an interventionalist. Please note the ACC calls this individual a fellow in training to distinguish them from a fellow of the ACC. A fellow in training is an individual who is commonly called fellow in the hospital setting. Sequence 15433, cardiology fellow last name, seeks to capture the last name of the fellow in training. This data element and all related data elements are coded based on the value on current procedure and are optional. Sequence 15434, cardiology fellow first name, seeks to capture the first name of the fellow in training. Sequence 15435, cardiology fellow middle name, seeks to capture the middle name of the fellow in training. Please do note you may use just the middle initial. If no middle name is provided, please leave the field blank. If there are multiple middle names, enter all names sequentially. If the name exceeds 50 characters, enter the first 50 letters only. Sequence 15436, fellow in training NPI, seeks to capture the NPI number provided by CMS to both uniquely identify the provider and is used by the provider to bill for their services. Sequence 15431, fellowship program identification number, seeks to capture the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education number for the program in which the fellow in training is participating. The link to a list of programs by specialty can be located by using the URL provided in the data dictionary. Sequence 12326, PCI indication, seeks to capture the first and primary reason the PCI was performed or attempted between arrival at this facility and discharge. STEMI, immediate PCI for acute STEMI, is coded for immediate PCI for STEMI or STEMI equivalent. The PCI is performed emergently and without delay after diagnosis. This selection also includes unstable STEMI less than or equal to 12 hours. STEMI other is coded for all PCI performed for a STEMI that did not meet the definition for immediate PCI for STEMI or STEMI equivalent. For clarification in coding, the remainder are defined here as follows and STEMI is coded for a PCI performed for end STEMI. Unstable angina is coded for a PCI performed for unstable angina. Other is selected when none of the above selections are met.
Video Summary
The video transcript discusses treatment strategies and procedures related to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in the field of cardiology. It explains that PCI is performed to mechanically revascularize the coronary arteries using various devices. It also defines a fellow in training as a medical professional undergoing specialized training and distinguishes them from a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC). The transcript further mentions data elements related to capturing details of the cardiology fellow, such as their names, NPI number, and program identification number. Finally, it explains the coding for different indications for PCI, including STEMI and unstable angina. No credits are provided in the transcript.
