Sequence 10125, cause of death, captures the primary cause of death, which for registry  purposes is defined as the first significant abnormal event which ultimately led to the patient's death.  The list of causes of death have been reduced with the goal of parsimonious data collection. The key priority is differentiating between cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular causes  of death.
