Video Summary
In this video, the IMPACT Registry presents a case scenario of a 12-year-old male undergoing a diagnostic coronary angiography. During the procedure, the patient develops severe chest and back pain, and it is discovered that he has a catheter-induced aortic dissection. The cath team is alerted to call the operating room (OR), and the patient goes into cardiac arrest, requiring two defibrillations. Once stabilized, the patient is rushed to the OR for cardiac surgery. This case will be included in metric 24, which measures cardiac catheterization adverse events in patients aged 1 to 18 years. The patient will not be counted twice in the metric, despite experiencing multiple adverse events during the same cath lab visit.
