This session will explore various antithrombotic regimens used before, during and after the LAAO procedure with the rationale behind each therapy. We will also discuss the timing and modality of post implant imaging, including whether follow-up occurs at 45, 90 or 120 days. Additionally, the session will cover strategies for re-imaging when device related thrombus (DRT) is identified and provide guidance on selecting the oral anticoagulant (OAC) therapy.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop an understanding of why antithrombotic therapies may be used before, during, and after the LAAO procedure with specific patients at specific times.
  • Identify what imaging modalities are being currently used for post implant imaging (% TEE vs. % CT vs. % MRI) locally and nationally and identify what regimen(s) are being used once DRT is identified.
  • Propose at least one best practice for long term DRT surveillance (low dose DOAC vs. antiplatelet therapy vs. serial imaging).
