As our experience with improving health care quality has deepened, so too has our understanding of what "quality" truly means. What began as project-by-project improvement has grown into a powerful, collective movement—one that embraces equity, community engagement, and the responsibility to advocate for lasting change. This session will explore the powerful evolution of the “quality in health care” philosophy within the context of a challenging terrain that threatens the health and well-being of our people. In this era, advancing the quality-of-care concept still offers the opportunity to renew our commitment to health, equity, and human dignity. Together, we’ll reimagine quality not just as a goal to achieve, but as a movement to champion.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain how the definition of “quality” has broadened in the past few decades.
  • Demonstrate the importance of collective action and collaborative effort to the mission of quality health care.
  • Examine how understanding and engagement in today’s broader health care landscape can help strengthen quality outcomes.
