Intra or Post-Procedure Event Types - Bleeding – Retroperitoneal

To code yes for bleeding retroperitoneal, there must be documentation the patient experienced retroperitoneal bleeding that was observed and documented in the medical record.  Then, once identified, there must be any one of the following, a hemoglobin drop of three  or more, a transfusion, or a procedural intervention or surgery at the bleeding site to reverse, stop, or correct the bleeding.  While there may be documentation that criteria one or two or three took place, when there is no documentation reflecting the patient experienced retroperitoneal bleeding, this  bleeding event would not be captured.
