Video Summary
Cardiac arrest is defined as a sudden cardiac event involving ventricular fibrillation, rapid ventricular tachycardia, or bradycardia leading to loss of consciousness. In such cases, immediate interventions like CPR, chest compressions, pacing, pericardiocentesis, ECMO, or defibrillation are crucial for survival. Even if a patient has a DNR order, hospice, or comfort care, any event meeting the cardiac arrest criteria must be coded as such. Without prompt resuscitative measures, death would likely occur.
